Studying Sassy: Feb 91--Dance Like This

Ok so..... I tried to follow the advice of two of Queen Latifah's backup dancers and learn some choreography. The choices of accompanying music were "Mama Said Knock You Out" by LL Cool J, "Groove Is In The Heart" by Deee-Lite (which was already on my Ipod), or "Tom's Diner" by DNA featuring Suzanne Vega. The third option (Sassy called it "The Hippie") seemed like a challenge, but not so much so that I might hurt myself. I can be very clumsy.

So remember, there was no internet yet. Based on still photos as the captions above, I tried to figure out what they were describing. I don't think I got it quite right, so I went more with the "clap a little and look happy" plan. Or, at least the "try not to be distracted by people at the gas station across the street wondering what you're doing" plan.

Since the article only has an 8 count per song, I'm assuming one is to do the steps to the chorus? Or else in a loop, just endlessly repeating them until the end of the groove (or your cassette tape breaks, which was happened to Deee-Lite's World Clique after living in the console of my car for all of college).

Oh! And there is a video. Because in 2016 we have the technology. Please enjoy.

A HUGE thank you to Matt Meindl for taking photos and video, and editing them so beautifully. His website is www.mattmeindl.com. Please watch his reel and give him all the jobs, because he is just the best. I think in March, I might ask him to Prom..... Fingers crossed he says yes!!!
